Ben Frost è un produttore e compositore Australiano. Da diversi anni si è stabilito in Islanda. 

La musica di Ben Frost parla di contrasto; influenzate tanto dal minimalismo classico quanto dal punk rock e dal metal, le palpitanti strutture chitarristiche di Frost emergono dal nulla e lentamente si fondono in forme enormi e ostili che spesso evitano le strutture convenzionali a favore dell’inevitabile dispiegamento di vasti sistemi meccanici.

I suoi album includono: Steel Wound (2003), School of Emotional Engineering (2004), Theory of Machines (2007), By The Throat (2009), Sólaris (con Daníel Bjarnason) (2011), Aurora (2014) e The Center Cannot Hold (2017). Ha collaborato con le compagnie di danza contemporanea Chunky Move, la Icelandic Dance Company e il coreografo britannico Wayne McGregor. Ha composto la musica per il lavoro di Wayne McGregor del 2010 FAR.

Frost ha co-composto con Daníel Bjarnason, Music for Solaris, che è stato ispirato sia dal romanzo originale di Stanislaw Lem sia dal film di Tarkovsky del 1972.

Ben Frost (born 1980) is an Australian composer and producer. He is based in Reykjavík, Iceland.

The music of Ben Frost is about contrast; influenced as much by Classical Minimalism as by Punk Rock and Metal, Frost’s throbbing guitar-based textures emerge from nothing and slowly coalesce into huge, forbidding forms that often eschew conventional structures in favor of the inevitable unfoldings of vast mechanical systems.

His albums include: Steel Wound (2003), School of Emotional Engineering (as part of the band School of Emotional Engineering) (2004), Theory of Machines (2007), By The Throat (2009), Sólaris (with Daníel Bjarnason) (2011), Aurora (2014), and The Centre Cannot Hold (2017). He has collaborated with contemporary dance companies Chunky Move, the Icelandic Dance Company and the British choreographer Wayne McGregor. He composed the music for Wayne McGregor’s 2010 work FAR.

Frost co-composed with Daníel Bjarnason, Music for Solaris, which was inspired by both Stanislaw Lem›s original novel and the 1972 Tarkovsky film Solaris.

From 2019 he’s composing the soundtrack for the acclaimed Netflix serie “Dark”.
